Petrology of Koko Rift basalts: Hawai‘i's most recent and atypical rejuvenation stage eruptive sequence

چکیده
Rejuvenated volcanism is a worldwide phenomena occurring on many volcanic oceanic islands in all of the major ocean basins (e.g., Samoa, Madeira, Mauritius). This plume-related follows main edifice-building stage after hiatus variable duration 0.6–2 Myrs Hawai‘i). Hawaiian rejuvenated basalts typically have high MgO contents (>10 wt%) and carry upper mantle xenoliths . Thus, these magmas are assumed to ascended rapidly through crust. The erupted along Koko Rift Honolulu, Hawai‘i unusual their large range (5.4–11.4 wt%), absence history magma mixing. youngest area (67 ± 2 ka) its best developed rejuvenation-stage rift system (15-km long with 12 several minor subaerial submarine eruptive centers). Here we report first systematic petrologic investigation better understand this most recent example volcanism. Rift-wide correlation of 1.1 Ga Midcontinent rift system basalts: implications for multiple mantle sources during rift development
Magmatism that accompanied the 1.1 Ga Midcontinent rift system (MRS) is attributed to the upwelling and decompression melting of a mantle plume beneath North America. Five distinctive flood-basalt compositions are recognized in the rift-related basalt succession along the south shore of western Lake Superior, based on stratigraphically correlated major element, trace element, and Nd isotopic an...

15 صفحه اولPetrology of some oceanic island basalts: PRIMELT2.XLS software for primary magma calculation
[1] PRIMELT2.XLS software is introduced for calculating primary magma composition and mantle potential temperature (TP) from an observed lava composition. It is an upgrade over a previous version in that it includes garnet peridotite melting and it detects complexities that can lead to overestimates in TP by >100 C. These are variations in source lithology, source volatile content, source oxida...
متن کاملPetrology and Geochemistry of Neogene Continental Basalts and Related Rocks in Northern Taiwan (iii): Alkali Basalts and Tholeiites from Shiting-yinko Area
Basaltic rocks exposed in the Shiting to Yinko area in northern Taiwan are considered to represent a member of the products of the Neogene intraplate volcanism in the Fujian-Taiwan region of the SE China continental margin. This paper presents new age dating, petrographic (including mineral chemistry) and geochemical data which suggest the existence of two groups of the basaltic rocks: the earl...
